Charles Swann.

Translated from French.

Charles Swann. 🦢❤️‍🩹

The name alone sounds like the keystone of Proust’s novel, and “Swann in Love” is Proust’s most widely read work. 🙌🏻📖✨

All too often, unfortunately, that’s all we read. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why is this character so important in “In Search of Lost Time”, when he ends up disappearing between two pages, without ceremony, almost shamefully? ⚰️🪦

Who is he? 🥸 Who did Proust have in mind when he created one of literature’s most memorable fictional characters? 🛌🖼️

You’ll find out when you check out this new two-part story on @proustagram! 📚🤓 And you can find all the stories above, on the profile page! 📺☝🏻

What is the title of the painting, and who painted it?

Swann no longer loved Odette when he married her. Was he seeking to provoke ‘high society’ by choosing such a wife?

It’s simpler than that – I think Proust is simply referring to those sham marriages that allow people to hide their less conventional love affairs.
