Jean-Yves Tadié is THE leading expert on Proust’s work, if one had to choose just one 🌟. He edited the reissue of “In Search of Lost Time” in the prestigious “Bibliothèque de la Pléiade” 📚 from 1987 onwards. As early as 1971, the centenary year of Proust’s birth 👦🏻, he published a memorable thesis on Proust and the art of the novel. Over the years, he also published numerous works devoted to Proust and, more broadly, to the poetics of narrative. 🖋️
In this first volume, you’ll discover his early years and education: from his birth in the 1930s in Paris 🕰️ to his time at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand 🏫, from his first teaching post at the lycée in Poitiers to his secondment to Cairo. It explores themes of camaraderie, but also of bullying at school, a love of learning and, more subtly, love itself 💜. It is about literature, in the noblest sense of the word.
A truly beautiful first volume, oscillating between obsolescence and nostalgia 🥹 for an era when the humanities were still a royal path, held in high regard and valued.
