@proustagram turned two yesterday!

Translated from French.

As of yesterday, Proustagram is two years old! 🥳🍰

This is an opportunity for me to thank you for subscribing to this account, and for following it so faithfully! 🌟 Thank you for your insightful comments, for your enthusiasm, and for the passion you have for Proust and his work – without which you wouldn’t be here. 🤵🏻‍♂️📚🖋️

Thank you for all your messages of encouragement over the past two years. 🫣🥹

I’ve just been back to Illiers-Combray. 🏡 Almost two years after my first visit to the “temporary museum” on Rue de Chartres, which is currently being converted into a cultural venue by @mairiedillierscombray, I was lucky enough this time to visit “Aunt Léonie’s” house, which has been fully restored. ✨

There is so much to say about this place, which is now a ‘place of remembrance’ and a ‘house of illustrious figures’. ‘Aunt Léonie’s’ house is a bourgeois residence furnished and decorated in a distinctive style – that of Jules Amiot. Visitors will discover a somewhat old-fashioned Orientalist style 🌙, but also a deep connection to the countryside and the Catholic faith: dark wood panelling, a liqueur set, and rustic kitchenware. 🥓🥔

Right from the first room, the Marcel Proust Museum displays a timeline 🕰️ aimed at the general public and a display case of everyday objects, most of which come from the bequest of Céleste Albaret 👵🏻. After passing through the house, visitors will find a variety of works evoking the writer’s world: paintings by Paul-César Helleu (Amiens Cathedral), Jacques-Émile Blanche (portrait of Maurois), Robert de Montesquiou, and Thomas Alexander Harrison (seascape at Beg-Meil). ⛱️

I’ll talk about it again here, but in the meantime, @proustagram is two years old, so long live Marcel Proust! And thank you all once again! 🌺🌤️📖

    As I live in the local area, I’m lucky enough to be able to visit for free all year round. Whenever I fancy a moment away from it all, that’s where I go.

    What a lovely idea to restore this house: literary heritage leads to built heritage, and vice versa. ❤️❤️❤️

    You absolutely must go there! It’s in Illiers-Combray, just an hour from Paris! There’s Aunt Léonie’s house to visit, the Pré Catelan garden, Tansonville, Swann’s Castle…

    Thank you very much, Mr Bern, for this enlightening visit. I’m going to subscribe.
    I’m also thinking of delving back into the works of Marcel Proust, whom I’ve somewhat forgotten since my youth! What a lovely opportunity. 😌🤗
